How to get to Torremolinos

Torremolinos is one of the easiest and most accessible cities on the Costa del Sol connected by bus, train, air service. With a fantastic road network to get you there and the the international airport, the modern cruise terminal in the port of Malaga, the high speed railway line (AVE) with transfers to local lines, and buses , you easy and multiple ways to get here and enjoy your stay.

Get here by air

Located just five kilometers from the International Pablo Ruiz Picasso de Málaga, it’s an easy trip from many regional and international locations. You can also take the local regional trains or buses to reach Torremolinos in no time.

Get there by train

You can catch a regional train line that covers many areas around the Costa del Sol from Malaga city. There major train connections also from the national locations that arrive the regional hub at Malaga city. From the main train station, its an easy five stops to reach Torremolinos in less than five minutes and commuter trains run regularly through the area. Get there by bus

The main regional hub to Torremolinos is from the Malaga bus station i which is about 14 km to reach the city limits. There are many regional, national and international bus companies that can get you to Torremolinos if you prefer bus service. The intercity bus lines run regularly and takes about 30 minutes to reach Torremolinos from Malaga

Get there by car

My favorite times to go are during the early morning or late afternoon when the temperatures are not so hot, late afternoon is fun with happy hour venues happening with good prices.

The beaches of Torremolinos are very popular year-round with summer being the peak season to enjoy the temperatures and beach scenes. The beach promenade connects six of its main beaches: 

Los Alamos, Playamar, El Saltillo, Playa Bajondillo, La Carihuela, Montemar, and Playa de la Carihuela.
You can enjoy the beaches for free or use a beach club and have some lounges, umbrellas and other amenities the clubs offer at their locations.

Walking along the seafront promenade is the Punta de Torremolinos with fantastic views of the beaches from above. If you keep walking past Playa la Carihuela all the way down to the Ferris while, you’ll be right at the outskirts of the Puerto Marina at Benalmadena. Here you will find a huge harbor with fancy yachts with restaurants, shopping and galleries lining up the arcade areas of the harbor.

Walking up from the beach promenade area there are a few stairs that lead to the main town area. You’ll find some fantastic lookout points with benches to rest and also enjoy the wonderful views of the beaches from above.

The staircase is decorated with flowering trees and plants on both sides the stair’s the colorful walkway below and offers tranquil seating areas and some fun photo ops of the mediterranean coastline.

Just outside of the town is a not to miss attraction at the Molino de Inca Botanical Garden. More than just a beautiful botanical garden, this area contained molinos or mills that created energy from local streams to grind local grains. In 2003, locals dedicated this area and turned it into a beautiful garden along with the mills as a living museum with over 150 different species of palms, plants and other mediterranean plants. There’s also colorful birds kept in cages and a Japanese tea garden to explore here.

Nearby is the family friendly Aqualand which has about 15 water slides that are popular during the summer season. In total there are about 19 slides with a wave pool and all different sizes and configurations to enjoy and cool off from the extreme sunny weather.

You can even go down the tallest water slide in Europe called the Kamikaze which is a thrill ride you will never forget.

Mercadillo Torremolinos (Local Market)

Held every Thursday and Sunday, eager shoppers head to the Recinto Ferial (local fairgrounds) to stock up on fresh food, produce and find bargains on locally-made goods and specialty foods from the region.

The market runs from 9 am to 2 pm.

On Sundays, the event has ‘El Rasto’ or the flea market, which is a free for all of antiques, second hand and vintage goods of clothing, jewelry, books and collectibles.

Located right next to the train station, the Plaza Costa del Sol is the heart and gathering place of the city’s outdoor living room.

It’s located at the top of Calle San Miguel and famous shopping district and narrow street. The plaza is a gathering spot with bars, outdoor restaurants and seating areas to take a break and have a bite to eat. There are live performances and musicians that regularly perform and entertain the crowds hanging out and drinking a local specialty drink.

There’s a predominant feature with this large undulating pergola completed in 2019, to hang out in the surrounding benches and providing shade to sit and relax.
