Surprisingly there’s a lot of Fuengirola attractions and popular places to explore in this area of the Costa del Sol. Fuengirola makes an excellent base to explore inland and also the many beach towns and cities that are easy to get to by local trains and buses.
I enjoyed basing myself in this area for a few weeks to get to enjoy the easy vibe, explore the main attractions and to visit nearby areas with easy access to public transportation. If you are looking for a low key Costa del Sol location that isn’t too over crowded with tourists, then consider visiting and or staying in Fuengirola as your base to exploring the rest of the region.
Weather and best time to visit Fuengirola in the Costa del Sol
Fuengirola, on Spain’s Costa del Sol, enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, making it a great destination almost all year.
Summers, from June to September, are hot and dry, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F), ideal for beachgoers but sometimes crowded and intense.
Winters, from December to February, are mild, with daytime temperatures between 10°C to 18°C (50°F to 64°F), and although rain is more common, it’s still quite comfortable compared to northern Europe.
Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather, with spring temperatures ranging from 15°C to 23°C (59°F to 73°F) and autumn temperatures from 20°C to 28°C (68°F to 82°F), making them ideal for outdoor activities.
The best time to visit Fuengirola is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October). These seasons offer warm weather without the scorching heat or summer crowds, making them perfect for sightseeing and beach activities.
Summer, from June to August, is best for those looking for a lively atmosphere and beach parties, while winter is quieter and suitable for a more relaxed visit, although swimming might not be as appealing due to cooler temperatures.
How to get around Fuengirola town and surrounding areas
Getting around Fuengirola and its surrounding areas is convenient, with several transportation options available for visitors.
Walking around town
Fuengirola is a compact town, and many of its attractions, restaurants, and beaches are easily accessible on foot. The Paseo Marítimo, a long beachfront promenade, is perfect for a leisurely walk and connects much of the town’s coastline.
Public Transportation

One of the most popular squares in the town with walking promenades that lead to this fun hang out spot. The plaza features many bars and restaurants, each offering a taste of authentic Spanish cuisine and is a very lively and popular hang out place for locals and visits at nighttime.
Beyond its culinary offerings, Plaza De Los Chinorros showcases the essence of Fuengirola’s beauty. The streets that branch off from the square are equally enchanting, making it an ideal place for a leisurely stroll and exploration. The local atmosphere, bars and restaurants offer a festive environment to hang out from evening until the late hours of the night.

There’s some cool activities and fun things to also do around Fuengirola outside of the main attractions to visit
Fuengirola is known for its colorful Saturday Market, held every weekend at the Recinto Ferial (the town’s fairground). This is one of the largest outdoor markets on the Costa del Sol and draws both locals and tourists. The market features a wide range of goods
Dinner and hang out at Constitution and Plaza De Los Chinorros squares – the dinner venues around Constitution square is lively with the restaurants spilling out into the streets, street performers and bar hopping. There are many more places to also hang out and eat at Plaza de los Chinorros at night.
Sunset experience on the beach – a wonderful end of day experience is a great way to enjoy the sunset experience here at the T walking viewpoint in Fuengirola.
Sunrise is also fantastic with little or no crowds outside of people walking or doing their daily exercise on the beach areas. Sunrise is definitely a great time to be outdoors and walking along the Paseo de Maritimo.
Outdood Art sculpture
The cool hand sculpture on the beach in Fuengirola is a well-known landmark Open Hand Sculpture.
Further down is another large piece called “Monument to the Peseta” (Monumento a la Peseta). It was created to commemorate Spain’s old currency, the peseta, which was replaced by the euro in 2002. The sculpture is a large, open hand holding a coin, symbolizing the peseta’s importance in Spanish history.
